What is Linux?
Linux is computer software: an operating system, the piece of software which runs the computer itself and allows other programs to run on top of it.
Linux is an open source, Unix-like operating system. It is a very effective operating system for both servers and desktops. Most Linux distributions are free, or are sold for a price that covers the cost of distribution and sometimes support.
