What is Linux?

Linux is an Open Source, Unix-like operating system. It is a very effective operating system for both servers and desktops. Most Linux distributions are free, or are sold for a price that covers the cost of distribution and sometimes support.

Who can I contact about LinuxChix?

The current LinuxChix coordinator is:

Jenn Vesperman

(+61) 3 9382 5545

As LinuxChix is a virtual organisation, there is no physical-world address. As it is run by volunteers, and I don't own a fax machine, there is no fax number.

LinuxChix was founded by Deb Richardson, in 1999. In August 2001, coordination and hosting were transferred to Jenn and Dancer Vesperman.

What is LinuxChix?

LinuxChix is a place for women who use Linux and other Open Source operating systems and programs to get together. Men are also welcome - the only real rule is that the participants must be polite and helpful.

We use a set of mailing lists for the main discussion groups, and regional chapters to allow face-to-face, real world meetings of the Chix.
